About Us

Our Mission

CultivAid aims to catalyze the agricultural transformation in developing countries by working with local partners to build local capacity and provide technical expertise in the agriculture and water sectors. We strive to strengthen small and medium-scale farmers’ agricultural production and improve agricultural value chains, positively impacting millions of people through improved income and nutrition.

Our Vision

CultivAid is committed to strengthening agricultural ecosystems in developing countries. We work to develop and adopt the knowledge and technology required to overcome current and future challenges of food security, climate change, poverty, while promoting agricultural-led economic growth. Our approach is rooted in the Israeli model, emphasizing the integration of research and development (R&D), extension services, market development, and the vital connections between these components.

Our Approach to Development

Our theory of change is rooted in an understanding that Africa’s population growth and unprecedented economic development will drive significant societal transformations, including urban migration, expansion of agribusiness, and increased opportunities in agricultural value chains.

This shift is exemplified by the remarkable economic growth in countries like Kenya, where GDP has surged from $12 billion to $120 billion over the past 20 years.

As many African nations experience rapid economic expansion, it is essential to ensure that this growth is equitable and inclusive, particularly for small farmers who are at risk of being left behind.

To achieve this, it is crucial to integrate R&D, extension services, farmer clustering, and demand-driven agricultural systems that actively incorporate smallholders.

Short term

We are establishing AITEC farms to facilitate the adoption of innovative practices through expert-led R&D and extension services, training a new generation of agricultural experts.

Intermediate

We define value chains with comparative advantages, and stimulate growth in specific value chains. By strengthening these value chains and promoting demand-driven production, we will enhance income stability for small farmers and ensure their deeper integration into the value chains driving economic growth.

Furthermore, the strengthening of value chains will create a spillover effect, benefiting other crops and the entire agricultural system.

Long-term :

We aim to see the widespread adoption of advanced practices lead by local professionals that will empower small farmers to thrive in a transforming agricultural economy, contributing to sustained economic development, reduced rural poverty, climate resilience and food and nutritional security across Africa.
