Getting to Mbeya

Mbeya is located in the scenic southern highlands of Tanzania and is accessible by air from several major cities. Below are the most common travel routes:

Via Dar es Salaam (Recommended Route)

Most international travelers fly into Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam and then take a domestic flight to Mbeya.

  • Step 1: Arrive at Dar es Salaam (DAR)

  • Step 2: Take a domestic flight to Mbeya – Songwe Airport (MBI)

    • Flight time: ~1.5 hours

    • Airlines: Air Tanzania, Precision Air, Flightlink

    • Flights depart once or twice daily

  • Step 3: Transfer from Songwe Airport to your hotel in Mbeya

    • Travel time: ~25–30 minutes
